I would like to offer sincere thanks and congratulations to Epsom and Ewell High School for your wonderful production of The Tempest as part of the 2017 Shakespeare Schools Festival. Students and teachers alike have put hard work, imagination, determination and passion into this production, and were a credit to the school.  I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight just a few fantastic moments that you should be especially proud of.

  • This was a charming and engaging production performed by a bold and committed cast. You really drew us in with your dramatic storm sequence – it was so dark and ominous you made us nervous of what was to come! A highly effective opening.

  • I thought you balanced that spookiness with a lovely sense of playfulness an I loved how you portrayed the youthful love story in the play. You expertly navigated us through the different groups of people on the island and gave distinct moments of light and shade, magic and danger.

  • Your decision to have the whole cast on stage throughout was brave and worked brilliantly because of your focus and commitment to storytelling. You showed great discipline and control and you were captivating to watch.

  • We saw outstanding stagecraft from the ensemble, creating highly effective stage pictures. I loved the boat you made, the cave you created together and that beautiful heart shape!

Congratulations to each of you for this dreamy and dramatic production of The Tempest.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this superb production. I hope to see Epsom and Ewell High School in the Festival again next year.
