Outline

The sport and leisure industry comprises leisure and health centres and private sector and public sector clubs. Opportunities include working with sports professionals, in fitness, sports coaching and outdoor education. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diplomas in Sport provide a springboard to a university degree or Foundation Degree in an appropriate vocational discipline, to BTEC HNCs and HNDs, or to employment.

Course overview

Students have to study 3 core units and 3 specialised units. The 3 core units are:

Unit 1: The Body in Action

  • Understand the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory system and how they respond to exercise
  • Understand the different energy systems


Unit 2: Health and Safety in Sport

  • Know the key factors that influence health and safety in sport. Be able to carry out risk assessments
  • Know how to maintain the safety of participants and colleagues
  • Be able to plan a safe sporting activity

Unit 3: Training and Fitness for Sport

 

  • Understand the fitness requirements of different sporting activities
  • Understand different methods of physical fitness training
  • Be able to plan a fitness training programme
  • Be able to monitor and evaluate a fitness training programme

  • Psychology for Sports Performance


Students are assessed by a variety of coursework methods.
