We have six full time and two part time language teachers, each with his or her own classroom that is equipped with an interactive whiteboard. The department also has a 30 PC ICT suite to support language development. As a specialist language college we also work with our primary feeders and have extensive links overseas. We are also a hub for international students visiting London and offer them a variety of experiences.
All students in years 7 and 8 three languages - French, German and Spanish. All are expected to take at least one language to GCSE with a growing number opting for two. We offer all languages in the sixth form.
The department is committed to enriching language development and runs at least one foreign visit per year group.
Implicit in the teaching and learning of languages is use of each of the four key skills of listening and responding, speaking, reading and responding, and writing. Speaking and writing each represent 30% of the total mark and reading and writing represent the remaining 40% split equally between them. All information relating to courses, assessment and reporting can be found by following the assessment link on the right hand side
A good bilingual dictionary for each language is an essential requirement for every student.
We offer French immersion teaching starting in year 8. The students study mathematics, ICT, drama, music, RS and PSHE in French and will do so for the four years up to GCSE.
