The school is a specialist language college. We are very proud of our status and see modern foreign languages as key to developing our students.

Our vision for languages linking the community

To develop pupils who will be competent linguists and independent learners, sharing their learning, assessing the learning of others, teaching language to others and leading in their own learning

To develop leadership and team working at all levels through collaboration with our partners and the business community

To develop teachers as reflective practitioners, seeking to enhance teaching and learning and willing to share good practice within the school, the learning community and beyond

To offer a wider curriculum with greater diversity, opening and sustaining learning pathways to meet pupils’ needs beyond school

To facilitate individual pupil target setting, personalised learning, assessment, collaboration and independence

To promote inclusion and make languages accessible to all learners, including pupils with additional learning needs, those from ethnic minorities and gifted and talented pupils

To implement and share a range of successful strategies to further raise the achievement of gifted and talented pupils

To strengthen community links

To develop further links with business and the world of work, making a valuable contribution to the promotion of a world-class workforce which economy demands

To enhance links with universities by undertaking classroom-based research or working with PGCE trainee teachers to provide school-based training as part of their qualification.
