Outline

BTEC Nationals are qualifications that are designed to provide specialist work related qualifications. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare them for employment. This BTEC Subsidiary Diploma focuses on education and training for Health and Social Care employees. Learners will find the course will aid their career choice at the end of their studies and could lead to a career or further study in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy or social work, for example.

Course overview

The Subsidiary Diploma is made up of 6 units of study of which 3 are core units. The other 3 units are chosen from a wide range of specialist units to make up the 6 overall core units:

  • Equality Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
  • Health and Safety in Health and Social Care
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Development through the lifephase
  • Nutrition for health and social care

Assessment

The award is assessed by a portfolio of coursework, graded by the teacher and moderated internally and externally by the exam board. Learners are given assignments which contain a mixture of case studies, research projects and practical activities.
