Why study Photography?

This course gives you the opportunity to develop and explore creative ideas through the medium of photography. You will work with digital media as well as a variety of creative techniques and processes.

Course content

Year 1:

Component 1: Portfolio of work

Students must produce a portfolio of work including one sustained project inspired by a theme or concept. 

Students must have an ability to respond to their chosen theme showing an ability to explore elements of visual language, line, form, colour, pattern and texture in the context of Photography. Students will look at viewpoint, composition, aperture, depth of field, shutter speed, movement and the use of the camera, film, lenses, filters and lighting for their work.

Component 2:

Externally set assignment, preparation time from 1st of February, 10 hours of supervised time, 96 marks and 40% of the A- Level

Year 2:

Personal investigation, no time limit, 96 marks and 60% of the A –Level Students will produce practical and critical/contextual work using a theme of their choice. Students build on the skills and techniques developed in year one.

Component 2: Externally set assignment, preparation time from 1st of February, 15 hours of supervised time, 96 marks and 40% of the A- Level
