Extra-curricular
Life at Epsom and Ewell is about much more than lessons. There is a comprehensive enrichment programme that caters for all interests and skills.
Our goal is to see every young person involve themselves in at least one activity beyond their curriculum.
Aims
-
To provide students with opportunities to participate in activities which will help to inform future career choices
-
To provide opportunities for students to strengthen and further develop their skills to become confident independent learners
-
To allow students to become increasingly active and independent in their learning and thinking
-
Encourage students to participate in activities that are cross-curricular in order to make links between different areas of the curriculum and develop transferable skills
Highlights of the extra-curricular programme include the annual school production, led by the Performing Arts department, and a comprehensive and inclusive programme of sporting activities delivered by the PE department using our state-of-the-art facilities.
Students are also part of our house system, where they represent one of four houses - Endeavor, Pioneer, Discovery or Voyager. Throughout the year, a range of competitions allows all students to take part, helping to build team spirit, pride and a sense of community across the school.
Academic enrichment is supported through opportunities such as The Brilliant Club. Selected students take part in an experience day at a Russell Group university before completing a mini research project on a subject of their choice. During the programme, students are mentored by a PhD student from the university, and the experience concludes with a graduation ceremony held at another Russell Group university in July.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is another well-established and popular opportunity for students in key stages 4 and 5. Participants commit to developing a new skill, taking part in physical activity and volunteering in the community, as well as completing an independent walking expedition.
After-school clubs and activities typically finish at 4:00pm.
