Student leadership
Junior Leadership Team (JLT)
At our school, student voice is central to everything we do. The Junior Leadership Team provides an exciting opportunity for students to take an active role in shaping school life and leading meaningful change.
The JLT is made up of four dedicated teams: Inclusion, Sport, Digital and Eco. Each team focuses on a key area of school development, ensuring that student perspectives are heard and acted upon across a wide range of priorities.
Empowering student voice
Members of the JLT play a vital role in:
- Feeding back to staff on student needs, experiences and ideas
- Suggesting improvements and innovations within their focus areas
- Representing the wider student body
- Leading projects that enhance school life
Students do not simply participate, they lead. JLT meetings are chaired and driven by students themselves, developing confidence, organisation and leadership skills.
Real impact in action
Our JLT has already made a significant contribution to the school community. For example:
- The Eco Team successfully led the development of a new eco garden at the front of the school and has organised engaging form-time activities across the year to promote sustainability
- The Digital Team has worked closely with staff to provide student input on the introduction of iPads, helping to shape implementation and inform future developments
These initiatives demonstrate how student leadership directly influences real change within the school.
Structure and support
Each team is supported by a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), who provides guidance and strategic direction. However, the core of each session remains student-led, promoting independence and ownership.
Getting involved
Students are encouraged to put themselves forward for the JLT. Positions are awarded through an application process, ensuring commitment, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to contribute to the school community.
